Celebrity encounters

One of the subjects on The Daily Post was to talk about your first encounter with a celebrity… (you caught me; I went a few weeks back to find a fun one)… To be honest, I can’t for the life of me remember my very first encounter… so I’ll tell you about all of them!

Growing up, I had this huge obsession with meeting celebrities — and when I say “growing up,” I have to come clean… I still do.

Anyhoo, I feel like more celebrities held more free meet & greets than they do today, so I used to meet my favorites all the time.

Not in any order:

1) Avril Lavigne- Southpark Mall, OH: She held a free concert inside the mall and then, before getting on her tour bus, signed autographs for the (handful of) fans waiting outside of it (guilty). She was rather rude.

2) Ryan Cabrera- Southpark Mall, OH: He, too, held a free concert. After the show, if you purchased his new CD, you were able to stand in line and get his autograph and a picture. He was stuck up.

3) The Click Five- Southpark Mall, OH: This was probably my sophomore year of high school and one of my best friends and I went and listened to their show (awesome), bought a CD and had them sign it afterwards. They were so nice!

4) The Click Five- Southpark Mall, OH: This was probably two years after the previous time. They fired their old lead singer (as pictured above) and replaced him with a new one (pictured below.) My cousin and I met them and they were so super nice and awesome! They invited us to their show at HOB later that night and we went there too! And met them again after! They even invited us on their tour bus! We declined *slaps head* what were we thinking?

5) Teddy Geiger- House of Blues, OH: This was my first Teddy Geiger concert but my only time meeting him. After the show, he stuck around to meet his fans. I asked him out for coffee (I was 15). He agreed. My friends wouldn’t let me because they didn’t believe me. They pulled me to leave. As we were walking out the door, Teddy yelled “Hey, where are you going? I thought we were going out!” My friends will never hear the end of it (going on 6 years).

6) Trevor Crowe- Giant Eagle, North Olmsted: I love baseball, I love the Indians. You knew this already. I also love any chance to meet a player. Last year I went and embarrassed myself by going to the Trevor Crowe meet and greet. How did I embarrass myself, you ask. Well, I was an intern for the Indians last summer and I still went down to be a crazy fan. People I worked with saw me and made fun of me for quite some time. Totally worth it.

7) Tucker Max – Legacy Village, OH: I found out my then-favorite author, Tucker Max, was coming to do a signing for his book “Assholes Finish First.” Ok, if you have read that or “I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell,” you know this guy is a total doucher, right? Wrong. In person he was, well, normal. Guys in the audience would stand up (he spoke for about a half hour before the signing) and would yell “You’re my hero! Because of you, I don’t believe in love!” And Tucker would reply, “Dude, I never told you not to believe in love,” and so on and so forth. He actually was decent, friendly and almost really nice. I was afraid he’d make fun of me or something went I went up to meet him, but he didn’t. The girl in front of me asked him to rate her (read his books if you don’t get that) and he did… Let’s just say he is honest.

As of right now, those are the only celebrity encounters I can think of. As I think of more, I promise I will keep you posted!

Story behind a name

One of the topics on The Daily Post was: What is the story behind your name?

Well, this is my perfect chance to tell a story that I think is kind of cool.

First, if I was a boy, my dad wanted to name me “Rocky.” Yea, good thing I was a girl. But part of me knows my mom would not let that happen. Can’t help but think what if? rockysevero.wordpress.com? No thank you.

But… if you can guess where Samantha’s inspiration came from… well, good for you. If not, I’ll tell you!

Samantha from Who’s The Boss and Samantha from Bewitched! Cute, eh?

If you could see any music act from history, who would you pick?

I stumbled across one of wordpress’ lovely features, daily post topics, a couple of months ago and have failed to take advantage of the cures they have for writers’ block. Without further ado, I will start with topic #87 — chances are I won’t be doing every single post — but it will give me some fun topics to write about.

Topic #87:

Imagine you get a magic gold ticket that lets you travel through space and time to grab any band, or music act, living or dead, together or broken up, and transport them to play live at a venue near you. Who would you pick? Why?

Let’s see…

1) The BeatlesLike you didn’t see that one coming.
I have always enjoyed The Beatles — every album, every song. Not only would I love to see them play live to witness, well, just them in person, I would also love to experience the whole atmosphere. We see pictures today of their fans going absolutely wild as they were introduced to this new band. I would LOVE to see that. Also, life back then seemed so much more fun, laid-back and not so stressful.

2) Elvis Going with the stereotypical answers here.
Both of my grandmothers went through the Elvis era and the stories I’ve heard from them sound so fun. Thanks to them, I have always been a fan of Elvis’ sexy voice and style; I’d love to go back in time and hang out with my grandmas and attend an Elvis concert.

3) Nirvanait is April
I am not sure if I am just in the mood for Nirvana since it’s the anniversary of Kurt’s death or what. I went through a phase in middle school where I was OBSESSED with Nirvana… My friend Tori and I even bought a Ouija board and tried to contact Kurt.  I still enjoy their music and I think it would be fun to see them live and at the height of Kurt’s career.
4) Sonny and Cheris that weird?
I am not even going to try to explain myself with this one. Ok, I’d like to be at a filming of the show and listen to them sing “I’ve Got You Babe” live.
5) Buddy HollyI can’t believe I didn’t put him first.
I have this thing for Buddy Holly – can’t really explain it. If you can’t tell, I am a huge fan of oldies music. Buddy Holly has always been one of my favorite oldies-artists.
6) Lynrd SkynrdFREEBIRD!
Just a classic… you can’t time travel and not see Skynrd.
Spread the love 🙂
