Best Summer EVER!

We haven’t even been out of school for a month and I am already having the best summer ever… let me tell you why 🙂

Been able to hang out with my Midpark friends a lot now that we’re all on a break from school… my one friend is living up at BG all summer so she only had a week to hang out at home — we crammed as much hanging out in as possible: bike rides, roller blading and beach trips as well as exciting nights out — and another friend has a two week break before she starts clinicals for the summer.

My boyfriend came up to visit this past weekend and, well, the Cleveland weather wasn’t so nice… however, we were able to go to the Great Lakes Science Center and enjoy a day running around there like we were still in elementary school. Nerds? OK. We also saw “Tornado Alley” in IMAX… ugh. Coming from a scaredy-cat… not a good choice! It really wasn’t supposed to be scary… tornadoes just freak me out.

However, the best part of the summer so far would definitely have to be my summer job. As you know, it is with the Cleveland Indians, and by reading my previous posts you know I love the team very much. As I’ve mentioned, I’ve worked for them for a couple of years now, but no experience comes close to this one!

I get to be down at almost every home game and I am out there cheering with the fans. I could not ask for a better summer job. The people I work with are awesome, not to mention that there are six Mount Union students on our team. There are also a bunch of other Mount Union students working down at the ballpark whether it is through volunteering or internships; that makes it a lot of fun to run into my friends during the game. That’s not even including all of the Purple Raiders that make the trip up to Cleveland to go to the games … they come from all over! I guess that’s what happens when your city has a winning team. Haaaa #bandwagon

Progressive Field is a little community in itself, though. All of the employees in all of the different departments automatically become friends just because of the atmosphere. Like I said, it’s awesome!

If you’re wondering where I was Friday night when Travis Hafner hit that homerun to win the game against Seattle… I was up in the outfield with some teammates cheering with the crowd and having the best time ever. After that, we ran down to the field to celebrate with the rest of our team and we stayed on the field during the fireworks. What a great time!

I will definitely be keeping you all posted on my life down at the ballpark — it will keep getting more and more exciting! (Did you see the score of last night’s game?! 19-1?!?!)

This week holds plenty of excitement because I am going to Vegas with my mom on Thursday! Next post will be all about my trip so make sure to check back next week!

Celebrity encounters

One of the subjects on The Daily Post was to talk about your first encounter with a celebrity… (you caught me; I went a few weeks back to find a fun one)… To be honest, I can’t for the life of me remember my very first encounter… so I’ll tell you about all of them!

Growing up, I had this huge obsession with meeting celebrities — and when I say “growing up,” I have to come clean… I still do.

Anyhoo, I feel like more celebrities held more free meet & greets than they do today, so I used to meet my favorites all the time.

Not in any order:

1) Avril Lavigne- Southpark Mall, OH: She held a free concert inside the mall and then, before getting on her tour bus, signed autographs for the (handful of) fans waiting outside of it (guilty). She was rather rude.

2) Ryan Cabrera- Southpark Mall, OH: He, too, held a free concert. After the show, if you purchased his new CD, you were able to stand in line and get his autograph and a picture. He was stuck up.

3) The Click Five- Southpark Mall, OH: This was probably my sophomore year of high school and one of my best friends and I went and listened to their show (awesome), bought a CD and had them sign it afterwards. They were so nice!

4) The Click Five- Southpark Mall, OH: This was probably two years after the previous time. They fired their old lead singer (as pictured above) and replaced him with a new one (pictured below.) My cousin and I met them and they were so super nice and awesome! They invited us to their show at HOB later that night and we went there too! And met them again after! They even invited us on their tour bus! We declined *slaps head* what were we thinking?

5) Teddy Geiger- House of Blues, OH: This was my first Teddy Geiger concert but my only time meeting him. After the show, he stuck around to meet his fans. I asked him out for coffee (I was 15). He agreed. My friends wouldn’t let me because they didn’t believe me. They pulled me to leave. As we were walking out the door, Teddy yelled “Hey, where are you going? I thought we were going out!” My friends will never hear the end of it (going on 6 years).

6) Trevor Crowe- Giant Eagle, North Olmsted: I love baseball, I love the Indians. You knew this already. I also love any chance to meet a player. Last year I went and embarrassed myself by going to the Trevor Crowe meet and greet. How did I embarrass myself, you ask. Well, I was an intern for the Indians last summer and I still went down to be a crazy fan. People I worked with saw me and made fun of me for quite some time. Totally worth it.

7) Tucker Max – Legacy Village, OH: I found out my then-favorite author, Tucker Max, was coming to do a signing for his book “Assholes Finish First.” Ok, if you have read that or “I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell,” you know this guy is a total doucher, right? Wrong. In person he was, well, normal. Guys in the audience would stand up (he spoke for about a half hour before the signing) and would yell “You’re my hero! Because of you, I don’t believe in love!” And Tucker would reply, “Dude, I never told you not to believe in love,” and so on and so forth. He actually was decent, friendly and almost really nice. I was afraid he’d make fun of me or something went I went up to meet him, but he didn’t. The girl in front of me asked him to rate her (read his books if you don’t get that) and he did… Let’s just say he is honest.

As of right now, those are the only celebrity encounters I can think of. As I think of more, I promise I will keep you posted!

Story behind a name

One of the topics on The Daily Post was: What is the story behind your name?

Well, this is my perfect chance to tell a story that I think is kind of cool.

First, if I was a boy, my dad wanted to name me “Rocky.” Yea, good thing I was a girl. But part of me knows my mom would not let that happen. Can’t help but think what if? rockysevero.wordpress.com? No thank you.

But… if you can guess where Samantha’s inspiration came from… well, good for you. If not, I’ll tell you!

Samantha from Who’s The Boss and Samantha from Bewitched! Cute, eh?

Summer goals

Isn’t funny how people are always making excuses to change their lives? (Guilty)
But seriously, “New Year’s Resolutions,” “Summer goals,” etc… Can’t we ever just be happy with how we are? Nope. It is just human nature to wanna better ourselves.

With that being said, here is my list of summer goals:

1) Become a better blogger – I always fall out of my blogging moods and forget to blog for weeks on end, and when I do, my blogs aren’t always the most interesting. Well readers, you now have my word. I can promise you from here on out my blogs will be in tip-top shape.

2) Weight loss – yea, yea… lay it on me. We all hate how people always wanna lose weight, well sorry lol but so do I. Last summer I lost a whopping 30 lbs (35 on a good day). Damn, I felt amazing. Sadly, I gained a little back, but losing weight (the healthy way) is so addicting. In order to be happy, one must feel confident with themselves, ya know?

3) Have more patience – I don’t know what has gotten into me over the years, but I have absolutely no patience anymore. It sucks and I feel horrible because sometimes I can’t even stand being on the phone with a loved one because of it. Yeah, definitely something to work on lol… how does one do that? Take a deep breath? Count to ten? We’ll see.

4) Spend more time outside – It may be hard to believe, but NE OH has many beautiful places to spend time. Hinckley Lake, Whipps Ledges, Edgewater Marina… the list goes on and on.

Nostalgia

Good thing I have this obsession with “feng shui” because the past two days have been dedicated to decorating and rearranging my bedroom at home.

That’s right, home sweet home!

Whenever I come home, even if it is for the night, nostalgia takes over. It is kind of inevitable to miss being a kid. After a long day of work, errands and everything else, you don’t know how bad I want to run home, eat pizza rolls and watch cartoons like I used to. In the midst of unpacking, I move stuff into our crawl space (see: attic) and catch a glimpse of my Barbies, my action figures (I was at a cross roads of being a tom boy and a girly girl) and all of my Disney stuffed animals. The other day I took out some of my toys to go through and give to my little cousins and I couldn’t believe how fast time flies. Seriously. Growing up is gross.

Speaking of growing up, Seany is graduating college on Saturday. Waaah.

New beginnings

I think it’s about that time that I get back into the swing of blogging. I’ve been sticking to my Mount Union blog lately because those posts had to be school-related. Ya know, had to stay focused (check ’em out. blog.mountunion.edu)

On a bright note, school is over! Well, for the summer at least. I have two finals — that are just “come, show up, write something down, done” kind of things — left standing between me and my summer break. #winning

I promised myself back in October or something that, come summer, I would morph my blog from the basic happenings in my everyday life to my social Cleveland life. I really enjoy reading the CLE-living blogs out there and, well, frankly I want to be one of them. So tune in all summer for the fun stuff.

Now, for a little recap of the past few weeks/days/whenever:

1- Climbed trees with my housemates

2 – Realized we don’t really want to move out for the summer (realized I need to go tanning)

3 – Fell in love with Jack Hannahan

4 – Decided I’m not letting my boyfriend graduate (should that have went before Hannahan? lol)

5 – Went on a “Brook Park Bar Crawl”

6 – Did some Katy Perry karaoke

7 – Celebrated my year anniversary with Seanski

And so, so much more.

It has been a great year here at Mount… such a shame when things have to come to an end. This summer will be a great one though!

Spread the love!

If you could see any music act from history, who would you pick?

I stumbled across one of wordpress’ lovely features, daily post topics, a couple of months ago and have failed to take advantage of the cures they have for writers’ block. Without further ado, I will start with topic #87 — chances are I won’t be doing every single post — but it will give me some fun topics to write about.

Taken from: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/

Topic #87:

Imagine you get a magic gold ticket that lets you travel through space and time to grab any band, or music act, living or dead, together or broken up, and transport them to play live at a venue near you. Who would you pick? Why?
____________________________________________________

Let’s see…

1) The BeatlesLike you didn’t see that one coming.
I have always enjoyed The Beatles — every album, every song. Not only would I love to see them play live to witness, well, just them in person, I would also love to experience the whole atmosphere. We see pictures today of their fans going absolutely wild as they were introduced to this new band. I would LOVE to see that. Also, life back then seemed so much more fun, laid-back and not so stressful.

2) Elvis Going with the stereotypical answers here.
Both of my grandmothers went through the Elvis era and the stories I’ve heard from them sound so fun. Thanks to them, I have always been a fan of Elvis’ sexy voice and style; I’d love to go back in time and hang out with my grandmas and attend an Elvis concert.

3) Nirvanait is April
I am not sure if I am just in the mood for Nirvana since it’s the anniversary of Kurt’s death or what. I went through a phase in middle school where I was OBSESSED with Nirvana… My friend Tori and I even bought a Ouija board and tried to contact Kurt.  I still enjoy their music and I think it would be fun to see them live and at the height of Kurt’s career.
4) Sonny and Cheris that weird?
I am not even going to try to explain myself with this one. Ok, I’d like to be at a filming of the show and listen to them sing “I’ve Got You Babe” live.
5) Buddy HollyI can’t believe I didn’t put him first.
I have this thing for Buddy Holly – can’t really explain it. If you can’t tell, I am a huge fan of oldies music. Buddy Holly has always been one of my favorite oldies-artists.
6) Lynrd SkynrdFREEBIRD!
Just a classic… you can’t time travel and not see Skynrd.
Spread the love 🙂
